Calabria & Links

Calabria is the southern most region before Sicily, and is best described as the 'toe' of the Italian peninsula south of Naples. It is bounded in the north by the region of Basilicata, region of Sicily in SW, to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea, and to the east by the Ionian Sea. Calabria is an area of great diversity and rich history, the landscape is dramatic from the alpine plateau of La Sila where a great deal of our products are grown, down through the ancient olive groves to the crystal clear sea on each side of the pennisular, with 780km of coastline. Calabria hides remote villages where the locals wear traditional costume. Among the region's remaining traditions are Greek-speaking villages, and Albanian communities dating back five hundred years. The region was part of Magna Graecia, the site of rich Greek colonies such as the Sybarites, their history has been recorded by artefacts such as the famous Riace bronze statues, recovered from the sea and now in the Museo Nazionale of Reggio di Calabria.
